Transportation Curriculum for Elementary Students

Your search is over! Introducing our exciting new transportation curriculum, designed especially for elementary students!

This Transportation Curriculum was born out of me noticing a huge hole in the market.

When I was desperately searching for a Transportation Curriculum or Unit I could use in our homeschool, I came up empty handed.

The only one that I did end up finding didn’t fit our needs exactly and was very wordy and I knew it would be too overwhelming for my kids.

If you aren’t sure who I am, my name is Amanda, and I am a former Math Teacher turned homeschool mama. I am certainly no stranger to writing curriculums, and I thoroughly enjoy doing it!

I wrote this Transportation Curriculum with my son, every step of the way. He is a little motorhead. I mean, he is obsessed with anything that has a motor.

Unfortunately for him, I don’t have a whole lot of knowledge to share with him about cars and trucks. I have had the opportunity to learn with him, right by his side. When I see my son being excited about learning, I get excited too.

Our Story

Growing up, I loved to learn. It didn’t matter what it was, I learned it easily and I always tested well. I was a “great” student. I always had A’s on my report cards and I was motivated to do well and get good grades.

My son… not so much.

He really challenged my beliefs about school and about learning. During his time in public school he would always ask why? “Why do I need to do this whole math page if I already know how to do this?”

“Why do I have to color this in, I don’t like coloring”

“Why is the Art teacher making me draw flowers, I don’t want to draw flowers?”

“Why do I have to read this book about dinosaurs, I don’t care about dinosaurs!”.

I never really had a good answer except “because you’re learning!”.

It hurt my heart because I so desire for my children to  LOVE learning…I knew something was wrong. My son didn’t love learning.

He despised it.

After reading Connor Boyack’s “Passion Driven Education” I knew what was missing from my son’s school education.

I realized it wasn’t learning that he despised, far from that, he is a very curious child. He needed his education (or at least parts of it) to be connected to his passion.

He wanted, no needed, his teacher to take an interest or at minimum care about what was important to him.

That is how this Transportation Curriculum was born. I want my son to know that I care about the things that he cares about. That I find them just as important as learning about the solar system or reptiles.

So What is Inside?

This Transportation Curriculum was built right alongside our traditional homeschool curriculum. We use My Father’s World, which is a Charlotte Mason approach to homeschool learning.

The Transportation Curriculum has book lists at the beginning of each unit. These books can mostly be found at your local library. Much of the Language Arts and Social Studies is surrounded around these books.

Every lesson contains a Math lesson. These lessons are all real life scenarios that you and your student can wrestle with together.

This transportation curriculum was created for elementary aged students so you will see addition, subtraction, intro to multiplication, and intro to division.

I also add math facts practice because, as a former math teacher, I know you can never have too much practice.

How to Use this Curriculum

I created this set to be used as an enrichment for those kids in grade school who love everything motor!

Not only does this show your student that you care about the things that they care about, developing a deeper relationship, it also teaches concepts that they need to learn in a way that they enjoy.

There are lots of different ways you can use this Transportation Curriculum. Below are some ways that I recommend that you can implement this bundle into your schooling.

The first way is to use one lesson in this bundle once a week for an entire quarter. This method can be an exciting way to draw your student into some concepts that might otherwise be less desirable for them to learn about.

The second way to use this curriculum is to do one lesson every day for 3 weeks with your student.

The final way I recommend using this curriculum is to use this curriculum as summer enrichment.

What Else Will You Need?

Your student will need a separate notebook. In efforts to be less overwhelming with the amount of text in the bundle, your student will do most of their writing in a separate notebook.

Once you download the curriculum, take a look at the book lists. Scour your local libraries to see what books you can borrow for free. There might be a few that you will have to purchase.

Throughout the curriculum there are also suggestions for field trips to take with your student. Once you download the transportation curriculum, take a peek and plan out what you can. This will bring the curriculum to life and really excite your motor obsessed student.

This Transportation Curriculum is unlike anything that I have come across before.

I created this curriculum with the help of my motor obsessed son because there was nothing else available for us to use that would work with our homeschooling approach.

I hope that you find so much joy in learning alongside your student and grow closer in relationship as you pour into their passion.
